Knyaginya (princess) Marfa Dolgorukaya was the teacher of Grafinya
(countess) Praskovya. Serfs needed to be taught the proper "decorum"
required in "society". This included dress, cosmetics, hairstyles,
even how to walk, how to enter a room, etc. Serfs were required to
dress in European clothing at all times. In this enactment, Knyaginya
Marfa Dolgorukaya is standing, while Grafinya Praskovya is seated at
the harpsichord.
